Jesus didn't address the gay issue or did He?

Recently with all the controversy surrounding the Same-Sex Marriage issues sweeping across the nation I have heard people in radio commentary, newspaper articles, and even talk shows on TV and cable all try to make the weak point that Jesus never pacifically addressed the issue of same sex marriage. The person tries to make the point that they don't understand why the religious right are making a big deal about the issue, due to the fact that Jesus never said anything about this subject. These people obviously have very little working knowledge of the Bible. The problem with this theory is that then we must assume that Jesus did not support scripture. The Bible clearly states in several places that homosexuality is very unpleasing to God. Look in: Genesis 19:5,Dt 22:5,Jdg 19:22-23,Ro 1:27, 1Co 6:9, 2Pe 2:10, Jude 1:8 all these references speak negatively of homosexual activity in one way or another. The references above just scratch the surface. In fact no where in my years of studying the Bible have I ever seen a positive reference. From Sodom and Gomarah all the way to the letters in the New Testament the Bible condemns homosexuality. If we know that the Bible condemns it then how do we connect Jesus to the equation? Simple. From the early part of Jesus's life we learn that he studied scripture and even had a great working knowledge of it at a very young age(Luke 2:41-50). Later in his life after He was baptized we see The Temptation of Christ(Luke 4:1-13). Jesus fasted in the desert where Satan came to tempt Him. Jesus used scripture to counter every temptation the Devil offered. Not only did Jesus support scripture, He came to fulfill it. Scripture is very clear on this subject, so one would not have to make any sort of leap of faith to know how Jesus would have felt about this particular subject.

Does that mean Jesus hates all homosexuals or that we should burn them all at the stake? To the contrary. Jesus came to save and heal hurting people. There is no question from the Biblical standpoint that homosexual activity is a sin, so there is no question that Jesus came to save those people as well as everyone else. Yes many homosexuals don't believe it is a sin, but all I can say to that is do not use scripture or Jesus to try and defend your stance because it fails miserably in the light of Truth(Bible). I realize that this view is not currently "politically correct". But I am not worried about being politically correct but biblically correct. The scripture that instantly comes to mind when people try to condemn Christians for their beliefs and the Bible is : Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ. Galatians 1:10.

I can tell you that I personally am not a Holier than Thou Christian that believes everyone is going to hell except me. We all sin and fall short of the glory of God. In fact since I became a Christian I have had to work hard and diligently in many areas of my life. I have failed and I have triumphed but I am honest and I will not tolerate lingering sin in my life. If you use the Bible as a rudder in your life to direct your course then sooner or later you will face storms and decisions. No one ever said picking up your cross daily was going to be easy. Many times you will be going against the waves of society. But in the end I was created to serve God and promote His word.

The sad truth to this rising argument is that many uneducated people of the Bible will just hear the question and not listen to the answer. Many people will agree that Jesus never said anything pacifically about this subject so it must be ok. Or sadder still is that many people that are asked that question will not have the knowledge to answer. Rather you like it or not the Bible condemns it but that doesn't mean there isn't hope. Jesus gave all of us hope. It also doesn't mean that Christians believe a homosexual is a lesser person, the Bible is very clear we are all created equal. We all sin, and we all can be forgiven. Jesus gave us the that opportunity. All that being said it is our job to teach and instruct the Word. It is our job to stand up for what we believe in and not let the minority direct this nation down a slope of moral decay. I don't believe we should be able to tell adults what they can and cannot do in the privacy of their homes, but by the same token marriage is unity between man and woman before God. That is what the Bible intended and that is how it should remain.

I have even heard some people say that marriage in general is a failure in the US and we might as well let same sex marriages happen. 50% of all marriages end in divorce anyway. Man and woman have done a horrible job in role modeling marriage. That may be true, but just because we have problems in marriage it still does not make any sense to introduce a new set of problems into it. This country as a whole needs to take marriage more seriously, but that does not mean just because marriages are in a crisis that we might as well throw in the towel and let things fall by the wayside. What's next marrying animals? Marrying more than one partner?

I pray that this country does the right thing. That we keep marriage between man and woman. That we hold some sort of higher moral standards for our kids. That marriage in general be taken more seriously, and the the marriages today become strong and united in Christ. Keeping the family strong is the only way this country will survive. And that my friends I can say in 100% confidence Jesus would definitely agree.
