What is wrong with this mayor?
I feel Christians and all people need to stand up and speak out against the lawbreakers in San Francisco headed up by their own criminal mayor Gavin Newsom. The debate for me is not rather or not God condemns homosexuality, which I believe He made very clear in scripture. The problem is the Mayor is breaking California state law and going against the will of the people. Is he forgetting he is a elected official and he is there to do the will of the people, not to push his own agenda and to break the very laws he is suppose to be supporting and enforcing?
Proposition 22 and approved in 2000 by California voters, that restricted marriage only to heterosexual couples. The measure passed with support from about 60 percent of those who voted on the initiative. 60% is the majority. The people in California voted and the people of California have a right to see that their vote not only counts but that it is enforced. The governor Arnold weighed in on the subject late last week and asked that the marriages be ceased, and that he would support a amendment to the constitution to protect the sanctity of marriage between man and woman.
I don't understand how this type of anarchy can be tolerated. To me the bigger issue just isn't about the homosexual/lesbian marriages, its the underlying fact that a elected official totally disregards the state law that he serves. Just because some people do not get their way on certain issues does not give them the right to ignore the law and the people who voted. That is how a democracy works, you bring issues to the people, they vote and the majority of the vote wins. This was done in California and the people voted AGAINST same sex marriage. When someone breaks the law they are thrown in jail and that is exactly what should be down with this mayor. How can a entire city be lead by a law breaker, and if he and the few who participate break this law were does it end? What other laws would the mayor like to break. It never ceases to amaze me what power and politics can do. Is he forgetting that he is a elected official and is in office to serve the people. Mr. Newsom the people have already spoken on this subject and they said No. What gives you the right to go against the tax paying citizens of your state? Disgusting.
My guess is this will be a form of political suicide. I can only think that he is trying to find a way to make a name for himself and to get publicity. Personally I would not pick this arena to challenge the people, polls all across the United States show that the majority of people are against same-sex marriage. Many people are tired and fed up with the in your face cram it down your throat gay/lesbian agenda. Contrary to Hollywood and the mainstream media which many times seems completely disconnected from the average American fail to see is that the majority of us really don't want to see or hear about a person's personal sexual preference. We don't want our kids watching all the gay and lesbian innuendos that is littered all across our TV and Cable programming nor do we want to see it. It seems they can't make a movie or run a TV series without at least one gay man or woman. HBO and Showtime are having a cockfight to see who can get the most gay programming on their network(the L word, 6 feet under, etc.. etc...) I understand its the MTV age and everyone is trying to be 'cutting edge', and maybe in the beginning it was a unique idea to have the gay or lesbian person in the programming, but the novelty is wearing off fast. The fact is the majority of people do no accept it as 'normal' and want a higher moral standard.
Personally I do not have a answer as to what a gay/lesbian couple should do if they wish to commit themselves to each other for a lifetime. Marriage has always been a bond between man and woman before God. The Bible makes it very clear as to it's stance on homosexual activity, it does not matter if it's a 'politically correct' view. There are many things in the Bible that would make life easier for a Christian if they could somehow change Gods word. God set out a blueprint for our lives that is not always easy to conform to, but who better to know the creation than the Creator? Many times the things we see as challenges in our lives become the very things that builds into us better character. As you mature in your faith and start to walk out your destiny in Christ you realize that God's way is always the best way. It is not always the easiest path, but those who truly choose to take His path never regret it. All that being said I realize some people choose not to believe in God or they choose to believe in God but not to believe everything in the Bible. That is a whole other subject we could get in to, but for those people they have avenues they can take to get the laws passed they wished to get passed. They have to do it just like everyone else, raise support and bring it before the people to be voted on. If it fails then they must keep trying if they really believe in it, but to take the law into their own hands makes them criminals and they should be punished just like any other lawbreaker. I am not implying that the gay/lesbians getting married in San Francisco should be punished because for the moment they are only doing what the mayor is allowing. The Mayor is the one that needs to be punished. And the marriages revoked, if they are even deemed legal to begin with.
I realize probably no legal action will be taken against this Mayor personally. At the very most the court will hear the arguments and the marriages will be ceased. Which in my eyes is ashame. California should bring this mayor to task and make a example out of him. Elected officials who choose not to serve the will of the people should not be tolerated.
