Super Bowl Gets Super Explicit 2/2/2004

Knight says, “CBS Saw the Lyrics, But They Missed the Writing on the Wall.”

Washington, D.C. — Robert Knight, director of CWA’s Culture and Family Institute, called on the FCC to hold CBS responsible for the indecent display presented by Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake in the Super Bowl halftime show.

“The songs during halftime and the dancing that accompanied them were lewd and sexually charged,” said Knight. “MTV’s own web site had promised a shocking finale, so it’s not as if CBS and the NFL weren’t warned. CBS saw the lyrics, but they missed the writing on the wall.”

“It’s impossible for CBS to scramble its way out of this, and we are encouraged to see the FCC taking immediate action to investigate,” Knight said. “Even if the Jackson stunt was a surprise addition, the network should be held responsible for its inability to protect the innocence of millions of kids and teens during TV’s biggest night.”
